The Wheelman: How the Slave Robert Smalls Stole a Warship and Became King by Marshall Evans

5 Stars

Absolutely elegant

This review is two-fold. First, the writing of Evans is very eloquent and elegant.

His writing is inviting and shows a grand story. This is a historical novel that slams the present and past against each other, as the topic is racial conflict and tension. I was moved by this story and how the writing just painted a wondrous adventure and journey of sharing a story of revival, redemption and the painful horrific past of slavery and the plight of the war. I highly recommend this book. It's the kind of book you add to your reread list.
