Powerful
Basara writes a great story that spans over different eras, and it showcases the
life and tribulations between father and son. Taught with the connection and life of a Marine (even retired, if there is such a thing), there is something between this two men, and one feels lost in illusions. It's raw and gritty, yet, gentle and deep within the story. The POV of the story is also important, as it shows the emotional turmoil of Rollie. "I put on the new Cubs cap I’d bought just before leaving home. Whenever I put this cap on I thought of Dad wearing his Mets cap. Standing there, looking at myself in the mirror, I experienced a tinge of sadness that we didn’t pull for the same team. Dad was such a pain in the ass." Just a simple idea of different baseball teams can lend to the emotion of this father and son. This was well written, and would have been a totally different story if written in a different POV.
