Powerfully raw with undeniable strength
This is a very powerful memoir and I find that the author shows great strength and power within herself to share her story. Terror of abuse and rape, other tortures that one can inflict on another do not hold back Coons. The story, which was written from the experiences of the author, was well written and articulated. It tugged on the heartstrings of the reader, while trying to gulp down the tears. An amazing triumphant story of survival and using tragedy and abuse to be a stepping stone to something better, a way out, a better life. I was truly honored to read this story, and I highly recommend it. One warning, it is a very emotional story. Coons writes (and this caught my attention the most), "Does God want me to get hit? Did he want me to hurt and cry? ...Why was I the only kid tied to the chair? I must be evil."
