Deeply vampiric!
First, I love Nowak's work, and I read the story of Descendant of Darkness through her release of the novellas, Determining Desires, Undying Devotion, Emotional Maelstrom, and Crossing the Line. I've looked at the three different reviews for each novella, and am including portions of those thoughts in this review, and some of my new thoughts on the story. The ever-continuing series of vampires and "almost-humans" continues to expand and add more excitement on this vampiric journey. Cain is dealing with a loss, and must keep going, and the story adds more characters. Hunger and desire drive this story, and it continues to expose the challenges of immortality and being vampiric. More surprises are in store for the characters, and some come into the forefront more. The story never forgets the past, and the books flow just as they should, picking up from one to the next story flows flawlessly. The thirst for blood is the mainstay of the story, and vampires and those who have "turned" must deal with "life" as it is and as it was. Cain is becoming more controlling but that's all I can say, and it works.
