Jarvis Mann Detective Series Box Set Vol 1 by R. Weir

5 Stars

Magnificent Detective Series

Jarvis Mann is a magnetic, raw and intense detective that fills the pages of many of Weir's stories. I have read as many as possible, if not all. This review will include partial reviews of each story that is contained in this box set, The Case of the Missing Bubble Gum Card, Tracking a Shadow, Twice as Fatal, and Blood Brothers. Jarvis is my new favorite PI. love the story and the character. As long as there will be more Mann investigations, I will read them. I love a good suspenseful detective/PI novel and this did not disappoint. Jarvis was an incredible character and very charismatic, while also showing the simply-lived struggle of the regular PI, live from case to case, check to check kind of thing. His case turned out to be more than he expected, and I read it from cover to cover in one sitting. The author writes very well and creates remarkable characters. I love a story where you think some detail isn't important and it turns out to pull the whole story together. This had several details like that. As always, Weir pulls the reader in, but of course, Mann is such a complex but interesting character, who is so easy to root for. The deeper he gets, the more dangerous his world becomes. Indeed a page-turner, and with the twists that Weir works into the stories, it's very enjoyable and unpredictable. In Blood Brothers, Mann is recovering from his butt-shot, but he is back in action. Now, his story takes us to his hometown, and connects with his family. Mann once again puts himself in the line of fire, and the payoff is big. He's not a perfect man, quite the opposite, and that's why he's so likeable. Jarvis Mann Detective Series Box Set Vol 1 is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author.
