Pirates, Scoundrels, and Kings by William Lynes

4 Stars Exciting Story Lynes pens an exciting story Pirates, Scoundrels and Kings. I have read Lynes work before and really enjoyed it. I have read the most recently edited version of this story. Chris is our story's hero, a mild mannered boy, embarrassed by his parents, and has a grand imagination. The story is exciting, and plot driven, as the reader gets to be by the side of Chris. There is action, and imagination that floods these pages. Christopher is a wonderful child, maybe older than his years, and finds his journey very intense and even scary at times. "The jarring crash of the closing cell door sounded very permanent. Chris looked through the small iron-barred window. He felt hopeless, watching the old man hurry away, down the stone-walled corridor. The boy was cold, lonely, and frightened." A very well-written story, and I enjoyed it. It is always a joy to read this author's stories. The dialogue was fitting for the story, and it made sense coming from the mouth of young boys (dude!) and even how the quest was impacting the conversations, and how they talked to each other. “I smell some treachery [...] Only my brother could steal such a stage as this!” I do suggest that the Proverbs above each new chapter be read, as they fit the journey that's about to begin. This author is not just a writer but a great storyteller. An enjoyable journey. It's a great story to follow and try to figure out what will happen next. This author's characters develop and interacts well with the other characters. It's tailored for young adults, but I had fun reading this book and getting to know Chris. This story was intriguing and kept the reader guessing. I have fast become a big fan of Lynes. I look forward to reading more by this author. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.
