Q: In one sentence, tell me something that describes you as a person?
A: I’m kind, overly polite and conscientious, and funny.
Q: How many books have you written? How many of those are published?
A: I’ve written seven books of short stories, a novella, and three full-length novels. All of these have been published.
Q: Do you have an upcoming release? If yes, tell me the title and impending release date.
A: I’m in the midst of writing a fourth book in the “Terrified Detective” series. It’ll be out early 2017.
Q: If you could “create” your own genre of what you write, what would you call your books?
A: Humorous mysteries.
Q: Without quoting your back cover synopsis, tell me about the last book you published.
A: Private Investigator Claire DeNardo takes on what she believes is a missing person case. When she starts digging she discovers a flourishing illegal drug trade and gets caught in the cross-hairs of a powerful nemesis who threatens the lives of her and her family.
Q: Tell me something about yourself that is separate from writing.
A: I love food and exploring new restaurants. I’m the go-to person for all my friends when they need a suggestion for lunch or dinner.
Q: Who is your favorite Author?
A: Janet Evanovich with Greg Iles a close second.
Q: What is the last book that you read? (Not counting anything you wrote)
A: All That I Have by Castle Freeman Jr.
Q: When writing, do you have a system or something you plan, or do you just write?
A: I don’t really have a system, although when I’m in the midst of writing each book I promise myself I’ll develop a system for the next novel. Then I start to write the next one and forget all about planning, until I get to the middle of writing that book. You see how it goes.
Q: Why do you write?
A: I love the idea of, ‘what if’. In other words, “What if my detective isn’t very brave and isn’t a great shot?” I also love to see how the story ends, since I never know that when I begin writing the novel.
Q: Do you read your own work a lot? If so, what does it do for you?
A: I read and re-read as I’m writing and before anything goes to the editor. Also, sometimes I’ll go back and read something I wrote a few years ago. It’s interesting to see how my writing has developed. My penmanship, though, has gotten worse.
Q: What is your favorite type of music? Is there one genre (or song, band etc...) that brings out your creativeness more than others?
A: I’m pretty eclectic with my taste in music. I don’t have any one type. I’m actually more creative in silence and reserve listening to music when I’m doing household tasks like cleaning and laundry.
Q: As an author, I find that the hardest thing to write (for me) is the synopsis that will be on the back cover or book’s description. When you write, what is the hardest line to write, the first line, the last line or the synopsis for the book?
A: Definitely the synopsis! It’s so hard to take all my carefully chosen words and condense them into a few sentences. On the other hand, I delight in writing the first line in a book. In fact, I have many first lines that don’t have a book attached to them. Maybe someday…
Q: Any final thoughts that you want to give to your fans or even future authors?
A: I’d like to tell my readers how much I appreciate them. They have so many books to choose from and I’m thrilled when they choose mine. It still tickles me when someone tells me they enjoyed reading one of my novels.
