Showcase: Libi Astaire

Nathaniel Wyckoff nominated Libi Astaire as an Indie Author who deserves appreciation and acknowledgement of her work. I am pleased to present this author a showcase blog post.

Author Bio:

Libi Astaire is the author of the award-winning Jewish Regency Mystery Series, in which wealthy widower Mr. Ezra Melamed is forced to turn sleuth and solve a series of crimes affecting Regency London's Jewish community.

From the author:

“Although I’ve been fascinated by English history since I was a child, anyone who has seen my attempts at gardening will know I grew up "across the pond," which in this case was Kansas. Like that other Kansan, Dorothy Gale (and Toto, too), I love to travel. I’ve been to England many times—including a year spent studying theatre in London—and I consider traveling to do research one of the happier perks of a writer’s job.

I became interested in the history of England’s Jewish community while doing research for my day job—I work as a journalist and I often write about Jewish history. I now live in Jerusalem, where there is always some new archaeological discovery about the past. I’ve also written quite a bit about the history of Spain’s Jews, which is both tragic and fascinating.”

Books:

Currently, Astaire is researching for the fifth full-length novel in her historical mystery series, which is called A Truly British Art. It’s about a young Jewish prizefighter who is trying to fight his way out of poverty, but instead gets involved with a murder.

While this mystery will be set mainly in London, for the previous novel, The Vanisher Variations, the characters travel down to Brighton, which was a fashionable seaside resort during the Regency era. When a young and wealthy noblewoman vanishes while taking a steam bath—something that was most definitely not supposed to be part of the health treatment—Mr. Melamed must discover her whereabouts before she comes to further harm.
