Readership and Lures

Lately I've been revamping the covers for the books that I feel need a little more vibrancy or lure to the covers. I don't know if this will have a reflection on the books and bringing in sales because I'm not sure how readers choose their books.

When trying to market books, authors try to figure out what is the best way to grab a potential reader's attention. So many authors and marketers alike have their own ideas on how to create sales.

To be honest, when I focus on marketing and the "lure" to bring my stories to a reader's attention, I am looking for more than sales (not that I have an aversion to money or anything) but I'm looking for "fans" or a following, you know, those who love my stories and can't wait to read the next one.

I probably will never be the next James Patterson (he's one of my favorite authors and I'm a female) but I strive to get the following and loyal fans that he has.

I wonder if a cover matters. I'm sure it does, but so does the blurb or synopsis about the book (as long as it doesn't give the entire plot away ... hate those ... why bother reading it if you're going to tell me the whole thing?)

Reviews are also important, but I have found that just because someone hasn't written a review (not everyone does) that doesn't mean the book isn't good, and I never judge another person's opinion on a book, movie or TV show. I go by mine.

So that's my two cents. Oh, and if you're reading this and you are a "fan" or follower. Let me know. I'd like to see that my fan count is more than 3.
