So, you think you're a writer...

Good. That's a good start. Now, why do you think you're a writer? I hope its because you not only write, but you write well. We learn to write when we are children, and that's just printing letters and eventually making words with those letters. So, writing is an art and technique. Whether it's typed or handwritten, its writing. I do not consider "texting" to be the art of writing. I may be one of a few (or many) who actually type out my words in a text.

Back to writing. Writing. It doesn't matter what you write, but only that you do. If you're a writer, you love it. You write it because you have to. Sometimes we discover our natural talent for writing when we are young, and others find it by accident later on. As we live our life, we discover more about ourselves, and when writing is about it, it's a new gift to ourselves. We take what's in our head and put it on paper. Our thoughts, ideas, stories, helpful hints, poetry, short stories, novellas, novels, epic novels, series and the list can go on and on.

So, if you think you're a writer, why do you think that? When you know you're a writer, then you are one. When you write because you its who you are, that's you, the writer. Now, the next step is becoming an author, and they may be two different things. A writer writes. A writer becomes the author, but always remains the writer.

Not everyone who thinks they can write, can actually write. Be honest with yourself and don't rely on friends and family to tell you can write, when you can't. If you like to write, and you struggle, learn to write better. Learn from other writers, so when you write, make sure you also read. You'll learn too that not everyone is a writer, even if they think they are, and some are better writers than storytellers, and some are storytellers who put their story on paper, and some relay information. It's a matter of the writer and what they choose to write.

If you wish to share your experiences in writing or things you've learned as a writer or storyteller, feel free to share with me, and I may share your story on my blog.
