Excerpt:
“A girl no more than twenty,” Merryk spoke as if still holding his breath, barely more than a whisper. “A forest dweller, a sun sprite whose village lies on the shore of the bluest ocean. A silhouette of a tall tower can be seen to the northwest, rising out of the water like an arrow. Her hair is as red and orange and gold in as many varied shades as a campfire, and she wears a cloak that gleams like the sea. She is standing at the end of the pier, reaching out to the rising sun, and it reaches out to her—” He broke off with a gasp, and Alyeth could see his pupils shrink. His face scrunched in pain, in fear, and it terrified Alyeth more than words could describe. He then closed his eyes and inhaled. The room flickered back to life as the candles in the room re-lit themselves, taking away the chill that had so frightened Alyeth. Merryk opened his eyes once more, and for a moment they shined the bright orange-yellow of the smaller flames around them before fading back to their original, wild blue. “Find her. Bring her to me, and I will give you what you seek.”
