I've had my LinkedIn account for years, as a professional, where I was software tester (back in my corporate days). Then I updated it only when I decided to go back to school, and get my degree(s). Anyway, recently, I started posting the reviews from my review blog, Amy's Bookshelf Reviews to LinkedIn. Through this platform, you connect with others, and then can connect with their connections.

It's for professionals, and you can follow a lot interesting people, you can view videos and webinars that relate to the subject you may be interested in. If you write, even if it's not for a living, it's still worth it to have a LinkedIn account. We share what you post, and we hope you share what we post. We are here to lift each other up, and promote each other, the best way we can. If you don't have a linkedIn account, it doesn't take much to create one.
