One lost letter changes everything

About The Lost Letter:

Former investment banker, Samantha Walker’s world changed with a phone call from Rikers Island. Yes, the prison in New York City called her to claim the personal belongings of her father, Charles Walker. She uses the contents in the box to navigate the life of her father. She even visits (several times) her father’s cellmate, Charlie. Later realizing that Charlie told misleading stories to keep her coming back to visit him. Samantha finds this “lost letter” and sets her on a race against time to solve an unsolved murder and the meaning of the lost letter to get the answers she so desperately seek.

Excerpt:

Charlie, shackled, shuffles to the right. “What’s going on?” Just as he asks the question, a gurney with a white sheet covering a body exits his cell. His mouth flaps open. “Bruce, is that Charles?”

“Yeah, Charles passed away while you were with your lawyer.”

“Can I say goodbye to him?”

Bruce takes his work cap off, scratches his bald head, and places the cap back on. “Yeah, I don’t see any harm in your saying goodbye.” Bruce nods toward Andrew, who stops. “Charlie wants to say a few words to his cellmate.”

Charlie shuffles toward the body, and Andrew pulls back the white sheet covering the deceased body of Charlie’s friend and cellmate Charles Walker. Charlie fights back tears and swallows hard to clear the lump in his throat. “Can I go to my cell now?” Charlie’s head is low to shield the stares of the onlooking inmates.

Bruce leads him down the cellblock to his cell. Bruce unlocks the cuffs and shackles. “Are you okay? I know it’s a lot to take in, Charles dying.”

“Man, I’m okay.” Charlie sniffles. Bruce, still not convinced Charlie is okay, lingers in the cell a little while longer. “I’ll tell you what. I will try to hold off anyone giving you a cellmate for a few days so you can get yourself together.” Bruce places his hand on Charlie’s shoulder.
