Any one who is familiar with me as an author or a book reviewer, knows that I am a big supporter of Indie Authors. I have been writing since I was a kid, usually journal writing, short stories or poetry, but it wasn't until 2004, that something made me sit down again, and start writing. What was intended to be a short story grew into my first full-length novel (Unwritten Life), and just that story, gave me the creativity driven imagination I had buried for so long. I was not just a writer, but a novel writer, and I found my niche. The first book since then has had several printings, and is now book one of a 67 volume Epic saga.
When I started publishing my work, I used a POD (Print on Demand) publishing company, and back then the term "self-published" had a bit of stigma, since it allowed many people to publish books, whether the writing was good or not. Sometimes that stigma is still around, and because of technology, anyone can publish a book. Though it went from self-published to Indie Author, which I think gives the author a bit of flair, it can still have a stigma. Sometimes a few can destroy the reputation of the many.
I have to say that the majority of the Indie Authors that I read and review for are extremely good writers, and usually I can see the growth of their writing as I read more and more of their stories. Not everyone can be a good writer, and for fiction especially, there should be more inherent talent, skill and imagination, rather than just writing
techniques. Every author has their own writing style, imagination, and level of skill. I like reading for Indie Authors, as I often find great stories that I wouldn't normally seek out to read, and my reading lists are very long.
Every single "thank you" or even small donation to my blog, is greatly appreciated. I am always honored (and it's the truth) to read someone's work. Any writer knows one of the hardest things about writing, is sharing and getting feedback.
Even if my tremor disorder prevents me from ever writing a full-length novel again (I still have many unpublished), I am still here to support Indie authors. I not only offer review services, but also promotions and other services, such as editorial feedback, and I am co-host of the podcast, "The After Show with McKensie Stewart & Amy Shannon." The Indie author is not the only type of author I read, and I read pretty much anything. If you're an Indie Author, thank you for sharing your work with the world. If you're someone who wants to start writing, my advice is to just do it. First, write what you know, and second, write what you want to know.
Thank you.
