Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

Absolutely Amazing!

As co-host of the podcast "The After Show with McKensie Stewart & Amy Shannon," we read this book and watched the show for our segment, "Write to Reel." The book was absolutely amazing. I loved how both Elena and Mia were alike in someways but so different in other ways, and they only looked at each other's differences. The reader got to see sides of the characters that even the other characters didn't see, which make for an underlying secret of their lives. Everyone from Bill (Elena's husband), to Elena's children (Lexie, Trip, Moody and Izzy), and Pearl, Mia's daughter, were intertwined with each other. I found it interesting how Elena didn't mind her children's nicknames, except for Izzy (Isabelle), which she only called her. It was dramatic and the secrets of the past also haunted them, and in some ways dictated their actions. I found Elena had a lot of depth, and also even when she was falling apart inside, her plan and organization helped her, even if it bothered everyone else around her. Elena was always determined and obsessed with knowing everyone's secrets, especially Mia's secret. It was one of those unforgettable books with unforgettable characters, which deserves (I bought this in paperback) a prominent place on my bookshelf. I highly recommend this book as well as the show, which is on Hulu as of this review.
