A brilliant coming of age story!
Blackthorn pens a wonderful story in Nine Months of Summer. I have read work from this author before, and I really enjoyed it. The characters had a lot of depth and were very realistic. The setting was in Perth, Australia, and it explored the migrant history, where Yvette was trying to stay, even though she was an illegal immigrant now. The setting was its own character, and how it brings life to Yvette's story. It's an interesting story of not just coming of age, but it's about putting one life behind you and finding a new life and where you fit in. Yvette is growing as a person and going down this journey of discovery and realizations. This read is more than just words on a page. This is a magnificent story, kept this reader turning the pages. A definite attention grabber, so much I couldn't put it down. It's one of those unputdownable stories. Nine Months of Summer is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author.
